Open source Java ME

Nov 3, 12:29 pm

Beyond Sun’s news at LinuxWorld and Oracle OpenWorld that they will open source Java ME reference implementation and other aspects by the end of this year, it didn’t take long to see vendors and open source communities get involved…

For example, Motorola plans to participate in Apache on open source Java ME tools, frameworks and even a stack. Additionally, Eclipse has the EclipseME project. Also, one of the first I found was J2ME Polish. Apress has published the first and currently the only book on it, Pro J2ME Polish, by J2ME Polish founder/lead Robert Virkus.

I expect to see more in open source Java ME. Growth in J2ME/Java ME development will increase as more open source J2ME/Java ME tools, frameworks, and more occur, imo.
