OpenCDS and Mobile Java

Jan 26, 10:58 am

According to a Sun representative: Sun announced on Thursday that the Sun Java System Content Delivery Server is now in the open source community as OpenCDS.

“Content Delivery Server is a mobile content delivery and management platform that enables mobile operators to launch and sustain content services more cost-effectively. The source code is available today under the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL).”

I view this as quite positive. Also, with growing number of open source Java ME developer tools/frameworks/IDEs like NetBeans Mobile Pack, EclipseME, J2ME Polish, etc – I see growth in Java ME/J2ME picking up more and more. Certainly, the investors – VCs and the like – are anticipating a pick up in growth in mobile Java development application options and solutions, especially from open source. Look for more growth in Java Card and other embedded Java solutions.

What do you think?

    1. Hello Steve,
Do you know of any other similar systems?

      Cheers,

    1. No, not for mobile Java or even .NET. It’s an area I’ll perhaps consider…
