Beginning JBoss Seam publishes

Feb 27, 12:07 pm

I am very much excited and pleased to announce that Beginning JBoss Seam has just published, and is now available on Amazon.com, Apress.com, or your other favorite bookseller.

This book addresses what I think is one of the most important enterprise frameworks since Spring. While Spring is still very much a successful enterprise Java framework that serves as a nice alternative to J2EE, Seam takes the contextual approach tying in the Java EE 5 JSF and EJB 3 API and standards together for a “seamless” tier-to-tier agile, lightweight enterprise Java application development experience.

Both Spring and JBoss Seam are the hallmark open source agile lightweight enterprise Java frameworks that are out there. There are others, but these two seem to be leading the pack. You can find nearly everything you need in terms of development from the database connection/persistence and server-side logic-tiers to Web-tier. Both Spring and Seam are also adding Rich Client Platform (RCP) for presentation-tier as well. Both are or will be extensible to these RCP platforms. Additionally, Spring/Seam are/will be extensible to other Java-based or non-Java-based Web-tier solutions out there.

The argument for Seam is that it’s standards-based, which is important for maintaining security and preventing Java API from becoming obsolete, etc. Agree or disagree on this, but Seam seems to be of great comfort to many of JBoss’ big customers. It remains to be seen how this will impact the growth and continued adoption of Spring, but it will impact. The question is by how much…

Anyway, Beginning JBoss Seam by Joseph Nusairat is the first book on Seam in the market, and will get you up and running quickly with this new framework. The book includes a simple practical sample application example or case study from which to learn from and even apply towards your first Seam-based application. eBook and sample chapter excerpt forthcoming soon. Source code will also be available shortly. Enjoy.—Steve Anglin, Editor
