This year’s JavaOne will have more open source than ever. I think it also recognizes the growing hybridization of Java (or Java blended with non-Java in stack, etc.) trend that is ever more clear by the day. So, here are the major categories of conference coverage along with any anticipated news:
Open Source Java
- CommunityOne (Mon May 7th only) will feature Sun’s major open source efforts such as NetBeans, JRuby, GlassFish (another open source JBoss type app server), OpenSolaris, etc.
- JavaOne will also have sessions covering these and other Sun and non-Sun open source projects, including Spring, Hibernate, etc.
- News expected: JRuby (on Rails) 1.0 will likely be announced. NetBeans 6.0 beta release could also be announced.
Next Generation Web 2.0/Services Integration
- Web 2.0: Ajax efforts like Phobos, OpenAjax, Dojo, DWR, Prototype, etc.
- non-Java Dynamic Scripting: Ruby on Rails, PHP, Python, JavaScript, etc.
- Sun SOA, REST and other plans may be of interest in general.
Sun Desktop Java/Java SE – Java EE – Java ME Platforms
- News expected: Java EE 6 (with JSF 2) will likely be officially proposed to community and JCP.org.
- Possible news: Java SE 7 may be officially proposed.
Consumer Java
- Java TV, Java tech in cars, robotics, Java games, Blu-ray, etc.
