Jun 4, 05:20 pm

Here is my Google Developer Day 2007 summary:

  • 1 day conference held around the world in London, UK, San Jose, CA US, China, Germany, France, etc.
  • 1,500-2,000 in San Jose, CA attended (where I attended)
  • first ever Google developer conference
  • possible planning may include being a major add-on conference to JavaOne next year up in Moscone

Keynote by several key Google Developer Leads
Key News/Announcements

  • Google Gears (based on SQLlite)
  • Google Mashup Editor (based on GWT) could be huge
  • Google Mapplets (integrate dynamic Web site into Google Maps)

Other News/Observations

  • Google Web Toolkit (GWT) is very popular and inversion of control compliant making it Guice compliant. Very interesting.
  • KML (Keyhole Markup Language) and GeoRSS are key Google Mapping technologies that third parties must now use instead of/goes further than JavaScript.
  • Google Checkout API (their Paypal)

I attended sessions on Gears, Mashup Editor and Mapplets, as well as a session on GWT.

Not bad for a first developer conference, one of many steps Google is taking to build a complete developer community, maybe GoogleForge.
